Black Ops Zombies in your browser
The Black Ops browser game everyone is talking about is a fan port of the original 2010 Black Ops 1 zombies on vel.gg. Open it below, or play a CoD-style zombies game right on this page. Both are free, with nothing to install.
Port details last verified on 2026-10-10.

Playing BO1 on vel.gg
3-step setup
The BO1 zombies browser port is heavy. Most "it's a slideshow" or "it won't load" reports come down to one of these three. Do them once before you open vel.gg.
Turn on hardware acceleration
Without the GPU, the game drops to a slideshow.
- Chrome:
chrome://settings/system→ "Use graphics acceleration when available" - Edge:
edge://settings/system→ same toggle - Firefox: Settings → General → Performance → untick "recommended", tick hardware acceleration
Free up memory
The game reserves a 1.5 GiB heap. Close heavy tabs and apps, and use a 64-bit browser.
- Big hordes on large maps are where frame rate dips first.
- If one browser stutters, try another; results differ by machine.
Let the site store files
Each map's files are saved in your browser, so the second load is much faster.
- Keep a few GB of disk free if you plan to try several maps.
- Private windows and strict cookie settings can block storage.
10 maps · each opens directly
Pick your map
Every map from the original game is in the Black Ops browser port, including the DLC maps and the four World at War classics that Black Ops brought back. Each link skips the menu and loads that map on vel.gg.

Troubleshooting
Fix every error
These are the exact messages the Black Ops zombies browser port shows, what causes each one, and how to fix it.
Unsupported browser Shared memory is unavailable
Cause: The engine runs on multiple threads and needs shared memory. Browsers only allow that when the game page is opened directly.
Fix: Open vel.gg/bo1z in its own tab in a current desktop Chrome, Edge or Firefox. It won't run inside another website's frame, or inside the in-app browsers of Discord, X, Reddit and similar apps.
Desktop required
Cause: Phones and tablets aren't supported.
Fix: Use a Windows, macOS or Linux computer. Requesting the desktop site on a phone won't help; the game also needs a keyboard and mouse.
Unsupported graphics
Cause: The browser couldn't create a WebGL2 context, usually because GPU acceleration is off or the graphics driver is blocklisted.
Fix: Turn on hardware acceleration (step 1 above), restart the browser and update your graphics driver. In Chrome, chrome://gpu shows whether WebGL2 is "Hardware accelerated".
Could not reserve enough memory
Cause: The game needs a 1.5 GiB heap plus room for graphics and sound.
Fix: Close other tabs and apps, then reload. Make sure you're on a 64-bit browser; 32-bit builds can't reserve that much.
Not enough storage Browser storage is full
Cause: Map files are saved in browser storage, and your disk or the browser's quota is full.
Fix: Free disk space, or clear site data for sites you no longer use in your browser settings, then retry.
Storage disabled
Cause: The browser blocks the site from saving files. Private windows and "block all cookies/site data" settings can do this.
Fix: Use a normal window and allow site data for vel.gg, then reload.
Download interrupted
Cause: Your connection dropped mid-download.
Fix: Press Try again. Files that already finished are kept, so the download picks up where it left off.
The game engine stopped unexpectedly
Cause: A crash inside the engine. Heavy Hell mode settings make it more likely.
Fix: Reload; your verified download is saved, so it won't download again. If it keeps happening, use "Copy error report" and share it with the port's developer.
The mouse was not captured
Cause: The browser didn't grant pointer lock, which aiming needs.
Fix: Click inside the game window. If you dismissed the browser's mouse or sound prompt, reload and allow it.
Questions
FAQ
What is the Black Ops browser game?
It's a fan-made port of Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) zombies that runs in a desktop browser at vel.gg, with all 10 maps from Kino der Toten to Moon. It is not an official Activision release.
Can I play CoD zombies in a browser?
Yes, two ways: the Black Ops 1 port on vel.gg, or Nazi Zombies: Portable, a free remake of World at War zombies that plays right on this page.
Is it really free?
Yes. You don't need to buy, own or install Call of Duty: Black Ops. The port runs in your browser from vel.gg.
Is it official?
No. It's an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with Activision or Treyarch, and Activision hasn't released a browser version. Fan projects like this can be taken down at any time.
Can I play with friends?
No. The browser port is solo only, with no online co-op or split-screen.
Does it work on phone or Chromebook?
Not on phones or tablets. Chromebooks need a 64-bit browser with WebGL2 and enough RAM for the 1.5 GiB heap, which rules out most low-end models.
How big is the download?
Each map downloads its own files the first time. Five unpacks to about 900 MB and arrives compressed, so plan on a few hundred MB per map. After that it loads from your browser's storage.
Keyboard, mouse or controller?
Keyboard and mouse. Click into the game to capture the mouse; you can change bindings and sensitivity in the in-game settings.
Where can I get the official game?
Call of Duty: Black Ops is sold for PC by Activision on Steam, with the campaign, online multiplayer and zombies. That's the way to play co-op with friends.
Is Black Ops 1 hosted here?
No. The Black Ops 1 port is made and hosted by its developers at vel.gg, and the vel.gg buttons open their site in a new tab. The games that play on this site are Nazi Zombies: Portable, an open-source remake, and the licensed games listed above.
What if vel.gg is down?
The status light at the top checks the site every few minutes. If it's down, it's down for everyone, and there's no mirror we'd recommend; unofficial copies are a common way to get malware. In the meantime you can play Nazi Zombies: Portable on this site.
